Nelamangala site becomes first ABB site to be awarded the AWS Standard certification (Gold category) by the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS)

Bengaluru, a major city in southern India, is facing severe groundwater depletion driven by rapid urbanization and excessive extraction. Recognizing these challenges, ABB’s Nelamangala site, located northwest of Bengaluru, has taken proactive steps to restore groundwater levels in the local community while recycling treated water on site. Approximately 85 percent of treated water is recycled, enabling groundwater replenishment at a rate nearly 1.25 times faster than consumption. Through comprehensive rainwater harvesting initiatives, the site has reduced surface runoff and contributed to an increase of over 30 meters in local groundwater levels over the past three years. The factory received the AWS Standard certification (Gold) in December 2025, recognizing its investments in smart water management, local innovation, and strong engagement with communities and stakeholders across the value chain.
