Saica Group leads innovation with the launch of the first recycled paper adhesive tape on the market

Saica Group has launched a new recycled paper adhesive tape, reinforcing its leadership in sustainable packaging through innovation and circular economy. Developed jointly by Saica Flex and Saica Paper, the solution is made from 100% recycled fibers sourced within the Group, creating a circular story: the recycled paper is produced by Saica Paper, transformed into adhesive tape by Saica Flex, and finally applied to protect Saica Paper’s own paper reels. The process starts and ends in the same place, boosting circularity.

Plummeting Demand and Rising Costs: Fibre Excellence Sounds the Alarm

A demonstration in support of Fibre Excellence Saint-Gaudens took place on January 31st, drawing several thousand people. Local elected officials also wrote a letter to the Prime Minister to alert him to the urgency of the situation. This mill, which produces market pulp, was shut down for five weeks last November. Today, according to the local press and the letter signed by the elected officials, it is threatened with closure by March 15th. The same applies to the group's other site, Fibre Excellence Provence. In November 2025, Fibre Excellence explained in a press release that it had "invested more than €55 million in the Saint-Gaudens mill over the past three years to improve its performance and competitiveness. However, production costs are currently heavily impacted by high input costs. The French price of pulpwood has increased by 50% compared to 2022. Condat: Three Takeover Bids; New Deadline Set for February 13, Final Decision Expected by the End of February

According to the local press, three candidates remain in the running to take over the Condat plant (Lecta Group). They presented their bids yesterday, February 4, to the Bordeaux Commercial Court. These are the Société de Participation de la Braye (SPB, the only one to submit a complete proposal), the Czech company Finesta, and Condat Papers, a subsidiary of the Scic (Société Coopérative d’Intérêt Collectif – Cooperative Society of Collective Interest) supported by the CGT union. SPB's offer envisions the industrial conversion of the site but would initially retain only about 20 of the 202 current employees. Specializing in the energy sector, Finesta would like to continue paper production (and possibly restart PM4) and develop waste recovery using the boiler. Condat Papers has also requested an extension to refine its offer.

Fedrigoni Group Special Papers of NA (FSPNA) Waterford, New York has integrated Cristini’s FiberScan microwave sensors

Fedrigoni Group Special Papers of NA (FSPNA) in Waterford, New York has integrated Cristini’s FiberScan microwave sensors into closed control loops on both paper machines to manage sheet consistency on the forming fabric. Installed under the forming fabric in strategic placement along the Fourdrinier , FiberScan sensors continuously measure sheet consistency in real-time. This data is then used to maintain target consistency by adjusting vacuum elements upstream of the sensor. Variations in furnish have a direct impact on drainage, therefore it is important to maintain tight consistency control for good sheet formation and other key attributes.
