The IBS Paper Performance Group, technology leader in paper machine optimization, has completely eliminated the use of dry strength additives at a European manufacturer of packaging paper. On a machine with an annual production capacity of 115,000 metric tons, targeted technological upgrades in the wire section achieved significant improvements in quality and efficiency, resulting in direct annual savings of 865,000 €. The return on investment (ROI) for this optimization project was achieved in just a few months.
The key to this success was the installation of an iTABLE® maXX® in both layers of the paper machine. Following a detailed audit to optimize the wire section, the technological focus of the rebuild project was on the forming zone of the paper machine as well as a comprehensive optimization of the vacuum system.
Paper properties significantly improved
These precise measures improved sheet formation by up to 12 percent, while the formation profile even showed an increase of up to 38 percent. At the same time, burst strength was increased by up to 10 percent, and the starch concentration in the process was reduced by 2 percent. Regular audits and maintenance of the dewatering elements ensure the long-term
performance and stability of the system.
