Drawing on its extensive experience in producing paper for publishing, Fedrigoni goes beyond the idea of a simple catalogue with Best of Publishing, offering a fresh perspective. This new collection is designed to educate and inspire, combining traditional material samples with digital elements such as QR codes, videos, and podcasts featuring inspirational interviews with eight internationally renowned editorial designers.
A selection of papers created to educate and inspire, Best of Publishing reinforces Fedrigoni’s presence in the editorial world through a compelling narrative. This new collection of editorial papers is both a practical guide and a visionary project. While it includes a traditional catalogue section, it also integrates QR codes linking to individual web pages, videos, and podcasts, enhancing and elevating the user experience.
The collection is divided into three parts: “Read Me” is a book showcasing the best practices in editorial design and a collector piece in itself featuring 29 premium coated and uncoated Fedrigoni papers. It includes exclusive original interviews with eight designers that crossed paths with Fedrigoni: David Pearson (UK), Eduardo Aires (Portugal), Thomas Kronbichler of Studio Mut (Italy), Sulki & Min (South Korea), Lorenz Klingebiel (Germany), Fanette Mellier (France), Matt Willey of Pentagram NY (USA), and Wang Zi Hong (Taiwan). Each designer presents a curated selection of their work, along with interviews that delve into their background and creative process.
These designers differ widely in style and approach but share a profound love for paper, printing, and experimentation. The featured projects range from independent, unconventional art publications to corporate reports. Most of the interviews are also available as podcast episodes in Design Signatures by Fedrigoni, available on Spotify and YouTube.
“Choose Me” presents a curated selection of papers drawn from Fedrigoni’s, papers carefully chosen for their aesthetic appeal and superior technical performance. The two fan swatches are organized by application: binding papers such as the embossed Imitlin, endpapers and inserts (mostly in colour) with renowned series like Sirio, Woodstock, and Materica. For interior pages, whether for text and images (mostly white) options range from the versatile uncoated Arena to coated Symbol, including innovative solutions like Arena High Definition and X-Per. There are also heavier weight papers suitable for covers. Reflecting the innovative spirit of the featured designers, the collection includes recent launches such as Cotone100 (an uncoated paper made from 100% cotton linters), GSK Translucent+ (a highly durable translucent paper), and Terrae, a line made with mineral-based pigments. Each paper sample includes QR codes linking to the Fedrigoni website for further information.
“Footnotes” is the final component of Best of Publishing: a guide that engagingly introduces younger readers to the editorial process, taking them through the world of printing and production, and offering insights on the role of paper in visual communication.
“As paper producers, we understand that publishing represents a cornerstone in a constantly evolving world — a testament to creativity and cultural heritage,” says Céline Bertuzzi, Marketing Director at Fedrigoni Special Papers. “With Best of Publishing, we aim to strengthen our leadership in editorial paper by providing a new collection to inspire the creative community. We’ve moved beyond self-reference to highlight the voices of some of today’s most innovative designers. To do this, we’ve gone beyond the concept of a simple catalogue, creating an experiential journey enhanced by original content and seamlessly integrated digital spaces.”
