As we celebrate 80 years of expertise and innovation at our Varkaus factory, we're proud to shine a spotlight on one of our most impactful technologies with deep Finnish roots: POM Technology.
Founded in 1994, POM Technology Oy revolutionized the paper industry with its patented compact wet end system—a breakthrough in approach flow design.

By eliminating the need for large silos and tanks, the AFT POM system delivers a more efficient, compact solution that uses less water, energy, and chemicals. The result? A cleaner, more stable operation with fewer breaks, faster start-ups, and reduced waste.

POM's groundbreaking impact was recognized with the InnoFinland Award (2003) and the prestigious Marcus Wallenberg Prize (2004)—two major honors in the pulp and paper industry.

The first reference came in 1997, and today, hundreds of POM devices are running successfully at paper mills around the globe—helping mills operate more sustainably with less water, energy, and chemicals.

In 2006, POM Technology Oy became part of the Aikawa Group, and a few years later it was fully integrated into AFT. This brought together the award-winning innovation with the decades of machine-building and fiber processing expertise at AFT Varkaus—strengthening our global offering.
