KMK Paper, located in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey, not only rebuilt its production lines but also quickly recovered after the 2023 earthquake, contributing to the restoration of its community. The extensive rebuild of the PM1 paper machine, completed with advanced process engineering and commissioning support provided by AFT, resulted in increased capacity and improved paper quality.
The PM1 wet-end rebuild consists of a complete POM approach flow system for both plies, including MaxFlow HB headbox screens, POMix stock processors to feed the paper machine, POMp degassers for air removal, and POMLock drop legs. AFT also offered system engineering and mill site services. Compared to traditional systems, the compact POM system runs efficiently with less water, energy, and few web breaks. This will enhance PM1's environmental performance while providing fast grade changes, process stability, and sheet cleanliness.
“We strive to ensure that sustainability is integrated into all KMK products and make our mill investments with this in mind,” notes Cihangir Hakan OBA, Project Manager at KMK Paper. “AFT’s ability to save water and energy, combined with maximizing fiber performance, is much appreciated.” Adds Bekir Yemsen, General Manager of KMK Paper and board member of Key Holding “AFT POM equipment is money well spent, contributing value and ongoing success to the entire project.”
