The 33rd Acotepac Congress in Cali explores sustainability challenges and innovations in the paper industry

The XXXIII International Congress & ExpoAcotepac 2025 is currently underway, taking place from February 19 to 21 at the Hotel Dann Carlton in Cali, Colombia. Organized by the Colombian Association of Technicians from the Pulp, Paper, and Cardboard Industry (ACOTEPAC), this event brings together industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders to discuss the central theme: "Challenges and Opportunities on the Road to Sustainability in the Paper Industry."



The conference features a comprehensive program of technical sessions and presentations focusing on the latest innovations and sustainable practices within the pulp and paper sector. Notable companies such as Valmet, Sulzer, Kadant, Techpap, ProJet, MAN and Tecnopaper are actively participating, sharing their expertise and advancements.

On February 19, experts will discuss topics including the impact of raw material consumption on pulp preparation projects, innovations in pulp preparation systems, and energy sustainability through optimization of paper machine dryers. On February 20, sessions will cover sustainability in the paper industry, dewatering concepts, virtual sensors for operational optimization, and the use of film presses to enhance paper strength properties.

ExpoAcotepac 2025 serves as a pivotal platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and exploring strategic partnerships, all aimed at advancing sustainability and innovation in the paper industry.



During the inaugural session, Mr. Marco Eikelenboom, CEO of Sappi Europe and Chairman of the Confederation of European Paper Industries (Cepi), delivered a keynote address. He emphasized the critical role of sustainability in the paper industry, highlighting the necessity for innovation and collaborative efforts to address environmental challenges. Mr. Eikelenboom also discussed the importance of transitioning towards a circular bioeconomy, aligning with global initiatives to reduce carbon footprints and promote renewable resources. His insights set a forward-looking tone for the conference, encouraging industry stakeholders to embrace sustainable practices and technologies.
