AFT (Aikawa Fiber Technologies) is pleased to announce the successful completion of a pulping process rebuild and screening upgrade at the Papiro Sarda S.r.l. mill in Sardegna, Italy, further strengthening a long-standing partnership between the two companies.
Papiro Sarda operates an OCC-based production line supplying testliner and fluting grades, as well as paper for packaging, paper processing, and recycled graphic applications. With growing demand, the mill set out to increase production capacity while enhancing end-product quality.
To support these goals, AFT delivered a comprehensive upgrade of the pulping and coarse screening process, including advanced rotor and cylinder technology. The scope of supply included a detrasher, coarse screening system upgrade, new HB screen equipment, complemented by process and plant engineering, start-up, and commissioning services.
The results have been significant. The mill has achieved a notable improvement in paper quality, while increasing production capacity, enabling Papiro Sarda to better meet market demand. Committed to circular economy principles, Papiro Sarda strives to maximize the use of recovered OCC material collected through its own recycling activities. By continuously improving its environmental performance and integrating sustainability into its operations, the company transforms recycled fibers into high-quality cartonboard while contributing to a more resource-efficient future.
“We are very satisfied with the results of this upgrade and the strong support provided by AFT throughout the project,” said Andrea Barsanti, Mill Director, Papiro Sarda. “The cooperation was smooth, and AFT’s expertise helped us achieve both our quality and capacity targets. As the process continues to evolve, AFT has worked closely with our team, transferring valuable know-how and ensuring that we have the capability to operate, maintain, and further optimize the system independently."
“We value our long relationship with Papiro Sarda and are proud to support their development,” said Francesco Pantanella, Applications Manager for AFT. “Our role as a trusted partner is to provide unbiased advice and tailored solutions that deliver measurable results for our customers.”
This successful project highlights AFT’s ability to deliver high-performance process upgrades that improve both efficiency and product quality, supporting customers in a competitive and evolving packaging market.
