Greenliner has successfully started up its state-of-the-art containerboard machine at the company’s 10th of Ramadan City mill in Egypt in November 2025. Greenliner’s PM 1 is Egypt’s largest containerboard machine, producing paper starting from 80gsm on a 5.15m machine deckle - designed for strength, speed and converting efficiency.

Greenliner’s PM 1 has been delivered by Valmet, with stock preparation technology supplied by Voith, bringing together two of the leading papermaking technology suppliers to ensure the most advanced production capability, efficiency and quality output.

Together with the group’s affiliated mill in Borg El Arab Industrial Zone, Greenliner reinforces its position as Egypt’s leading containerboard producer and a growing force in the production landscape. As a group, both mills offer a strong portfolio of brown and white, virgin and recycled containerboard grades.

Since its start, the group has been a driving force in advancing both product diversity and quality standards in the Egyptian and regional containerboard sector, laying the foundation for further growth with PM 1.

"This startup reshapes the Egyptian paper industry," said M.F. Ashour, CEO of Greenliner. "With PM 1, Egypt is entering a new era of containerboard performance, enabled by the most advanced European technology and a relentless focus on quality. We are raising the bar far beyond what the market has offered before.”
He added: “The global containerboard marketplace has shifted significantly the past couple of years, but our standing as a high-quality containerboard producer has remained strong with increasing demand domestically and internationally. Moreover, the Middle East has become increasingly vital in global supply, and with PM 1 we are responding to these market gaps.”

Egypt’s corrugated industry is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by rising domestic consumption, FMCG expansion, and the surge in e-commerce. Historically reliant on imports of higher-quality grades, local converters have often faced challenges in securing sufficient and consistent supply that meets international standards. PM 1 addresses this gap by delivering internationally competitive containerboard, positioning Egypt more firmly within global supply chains. PM 1 will continue its production ramp-up throughout 2026, expanding both volume and grade capability, further accelerating the company’s export presence.
